Weekend in Wellington

The Dude and I got a treat last weekend.

We travelled to Wellington to enjoy being tourists and to just be us for 3 days.  It was a double birthday for the Dude as we didn't really celebrate it last year (or have the cash to celebrate it), so this year we splashed out and booked in the grandparents.

We enjoyed our first break from two children in more than 18 months.  That's right, NO kids.  At all.  None to wake you up during the night or early in the morning.  None to dress.  None to cook for.  None to fight or tussle with.  None to bargain with.  We got to enjoy 2 full days where everything was on our time and on our terms.  Pure bliss.

It was very important for us to re-connect and remember who we are without children and for the Dude to remember that I'm not always a stressed/moody/tired/grumpy woman who he sees far too regularly.  In fact the weekend made me feel very sorry for him and what he has had to live with for the past 4 years.  It can't have been fun.  Things to learn and try to change.

I had only been to Wellington for work and so it was great to be tourists in our own country and to wander the streets and just see stuff that appealed to us.  Wellington is a city with a solid city centre, a strong art and cultural focus on display, obviously a political and patriotic centre for the country.  I loved how you could wander the waterfront so easily and wondered what Auckland would be like if we ever got rid of our container wharves.  Some great architecture.  Fantastic food.  We had some great tips on places to eat and check out and we did it all and we loved it.

My two favourite shots of the weekend I've put first and then a little collage of the whole weekend.
